Beaver Paper Internship – Creating Skills for Success

Here at Beaver Paper, we take pride in helping our interns succeed. Meet Iran Hernandez, she is one of our first Mechanical Engineering interns to go through the program here at Beaver Paper. This May she will be graduating from Mercer University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Economics. Iran’s fascination with engineering began with a simple concept many of us do not think twice about – stick shift on a manual transmission.

One of her friends from college was teaching her how to drive a stick shift, and Iran fell in love with how it operated, this is where her curiosity for Mechanical Engineering blossomed. She started her Fall semester at Mercer University where she began taking engineering classes. At first, being in the engineering field was challenging. She quickly realized she was one of the only women in the classes. However, she has been encouraged to see that more women are joining the field of engineering.

From the very beginning it was automotive that sparked her love and interest in Engineering. She wants to use this passion to work in the R&D sector of automotive and focus on creating a more sustainable way of transportation. She is excited that she has the opportunity to push things forward and make the world a cleaner and more efficient place. Her plans moving forward include: Continuing her Internship with Beaver Paper throughout the Summer then going to Coventry University in the United Kingdom, and Duke University where she will further her studies in Engineering.

“I feel so fortunate to have met everyone at Beaver Paper. They have all been so supportive and inviting throughout my internship” – Iran Hernandez
